Frizz can make even healthy hair look damaged – but it’s usually a sign your hair needs moisture.
What causes frizz?
How to fix it
Quick wins
Final Thoughts
Frizz isn’t the enemy – it’s just your hair asking for moisture.
If you rely on heat tools daily, your hair might be paying the price.
Signs you’re overdoing it
A healthier approach
Final Thoughts
Healthy hair is about balance, you don’t need to stop completely, just reduce frequency and protect your hair
Healthy hair starts with your scalp – but it’s often the most overlooked part of any routine. If your scalp isn’t balanced, your hair won’t be either.
Here’s a simple, effective routine you can follow.
Step 1: Cleanse properly
Your scalp needs regular cleansing to remove:
Aim to wash based on your hair type.
Step 2: Exfoliate
Just like your skin, your scalp benefits from gentle exfoliation.
This helps to:
Once a week is enough for most people.
Step 3: Hydrate your scalp
A dry scalp can lead to itching and irritation.
Use:
Step 4: Avoid product buildup
Heavy products can suffocate your scalp and affect growth.
Signs of buildup:
Step 5: Be consistent
Consistency matters more than expensive products. A simple routine done regularly will always outperform a complicated one you don’t stick to.
Final Thoughts
Think of your scalp like soil – healthy roots lead to healthy growth. Get this right, and everything else becomes easier.
If you’ve ever wished your hair would just grow faster, you’re definitely not alone. From oils to supplements, there’s no shortage of advice- but how much of it actually works?
How fast does hair actually grow?
On average, hair grows on average about 1.5 cm per month. This is largely determined by genetics, meaning you can’t dramatically speed it up – but you can support healthier growth.
What actually helps hair growth
1. A Healthy Diet
Hair is made of protein, so low-protein diets can slow growth. Iron and vitamins also play a key role.
2. Scalp Health
A clean, balanced scalp creates the best environment for growth.
3. Reducing Breakage
Sometimes it’s not about growing faster – it’s about keeping the hair you already have.
What doesn’t work (despite the hype)
– Miracle oils that promise instant growth
– Overusing supplements without a deficiency
– Cutting your hair to make it grow faster (this is a myth)
When hair growth is a concern
If your hair isn’t growing or is thinning significantly, it could be linked to:
Simple routine for better growth
Final Thoughts
You might not be able to dramatically speed up hair growth, but you can create the perfect conditions for stronger, healthier hair over time.
And that’s what really makes the difference.
Flakes on your shoulders? Before you grab any anti-dandruff shampoo, it’s important to know what you’re actually dealing with.
Dandruff and dry scalp might look similar – but they have very different causes and treatments.
What is dry scalp?
Dry scalp happens when your skin lacks moisture.
Signs:
What is dandruff?
Dandruff is usually caused by excess oil and a yeast-like fungus on the scalp.
Signs:
The key difference
– Dry scalp = lack of moisture
– Dandruff = too much oil + irritation
Getting this wrong can make the problem worse.
How to treat dry scalp
How to treat dandruff
When to see a professional
If flakes don’t improve or get worse, it’s worth speaking to a GP or dermatologist – especially if you notice redness or irritation.
Final Thoughts
Understanding your scalp is the first step to healthier hair. Once you know what you’re dealing with, the right treatment becomes much simpler, and far more effective.
If you’ve ever Googled “how often should I wash my hair?”, you’ve probably seen completely different answers – from daily washing to once a week. The truth? It depends on your hair type, lifestyle, and even where you live.
Here’s a guide to help you find what works for you.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but here’s a simple breakdown:
If your scalp feels itchy, greasy, or uncomfortable – it’s time to wash.
Washing too often strips your scalp of natural oils. This can lead to:
Leaving your hair too long between washes can cause:
1. Your Lifestyle
If you work out regularly or live in a polluted area, you may need to wash more often.
2. Your Hair Products
Heavy styling products = more frequent washing.
3. UK Weather
Humidity and rain can make hair greasy faster, while cold weather can dry out your scalp.
Final Thoughts
The best hair routine is one that works for you. Start with your hair type, adjust based on how your scalp feels, and don’t be afraid to experiment.

Q: How long does it take?
A: A head spa treatment takes 30 minutes.
–
Q: How much is it?
A: It is £30 if you are adding it on to another service you are already having in the salon, or £40 if you are coming in for just the head spa treatment.
–
Q: Do I leave with wet hair?
A: You can either book in for a blow-dry (at an additional cost) or we can rough dry off after (no charge).
–
Q: What is included?
A: Your hair will be washed with shampoo specifically chosen for your hair and scalp type, we then use the Moroccanoil scalp scrub to help remove any impurities or build up on the scalp (we do not use the scalp scrub if you have had a colour done on the same day). After this we then apply the hair oil chosen for your scalp type, shampoo again and then a deep conditioning mask is used while you have the relaxing head massage. All throughout the treatment we use the special head spa attachments creating a waterfall effect on your hair for relaxation and a steamer which opens the cuticle and helps the hair absorb the moisture needed. Afterwards we apply the Moroccanoil scalp balancing tonic. There is also the option to use a jade eye mask throughout the treatment if you wish.
–
Q: Am I in a dark room?
A: No, our head spa treatment takes place in our basin area in our specially adapted basin.
–
Q: Can I have it done on the same day as my colour?
A: Yes, we can still do the head spa treatment on the same day but we do adapt it slightly and we do not do the scalp scrub.
–
Q: Can me and my friend come and have it done at the same time?
A: Unfortunately we only have one head spa and so wouldn’t be able to do 2 treatments at the same time.
–
Q: I have dandruff can I still have the treatment?
A: Yes we can still complete the head spa if you have dandruff. We assess everyone’s hair and scalp before doing a head spa and choose the products based on the individual.
–
Q: Is there an age limit?
A: No, we can do the head spa on any age we just ask that under 16’s are kept accompanied by an adult.
–
Q: Why have it done in a hair salon?
A: We focus on not just the scalp but also the hair, we ensure all the products used are beneficial for both. We care for your hair – we do not leave you in a tangled mess!
–
Q: I have extensions can I still have the treatment?
A: Yes, we just adapt the treatment – we will not use the scalp scrub where the extensions are and adapt the pressure and tools we use.

Noticing more hair in your brush, on your pillow, or clogging the shower drain? You’re not alone – and the good news is, hair loss is often temporary and fixable once you understand the cause.
How much hair loss is normal?
It’s completely normal to lose around 50–100 hairs a day. Hair goes through a natural cycle of growth, rest, and shedding. But if you’re seeing excessive thinning, sudden shedding, or bald patches, it’s time to look deeper.
The most common causes of hair loss
1. Stress & Lifestyle Changes
Physical or emotional stress can push hair into a shedding phase. This is often temporary but can feel alarming.
2. Hormonal Changes
Pregnancy, postpartum recovery, menopause, or thyroid imbalances can all affect hair growth cycles.
3. Nutritional Deficiencies
Low levels of iron, protein, or certain vitamins can weaken hair and slow growth.
4. Hair Conditions
Conditions like alocecia can cause patchy or more significant hair loss and may require professional support.
Signs you shouldn’t ignore
If you notice these, it’s worth speaking to a GP or specialist.
What you can do to reduce hair loss
A healthy scalp = healthy hair growth. Keep it clean, balanced, and hydrated.
Easier said than done -but even small changes like better sleep and movement can help.
Can hair grow back?
In many cases, yes. Once the underlying cause is addressed, hair often regrows over time. However, consistency is key, and results don’t happen overnight.
Final Thoughts
Hair loss can feel overwhelming, but it’s usually your body’s way of signalling that something needs attention. Start with the basics—nutrition, scalp care, and stress – and build from there.
If you’re unsure, always seek professional advice early. The sooner you identify the cause, the easier it is to take control.
Hi I’m Georgina, I have been at Halo since the end of September 2023, I started 2 weeks after my 16th birthday. I have always wanted to be in the hairdressing industry, I have always found it fascinating. I love seeing peoples faces light up when they see the end result and I love getting to know all the regular clients and meeting new clients when they first come in to Halo.
I am also forever grateful to The Boss Lady and the other team members for always being there with their tips an tricks and helping boost my confidence. I look forward to starting my apprenticeship in September of this year and continuing to learn and grow.
Hi, I’m Milly and I’ve been at Halo since June 2024.
I’m currently doing my apprenticeship at East Surrey College where I really enjoy learning all the different techniques to do with hairdressing. I first realised I had an interest for hairdressing when I was about 13 years old, I just love it when I’m doing hair, it makes my mind go to a peaceful place.
If I had to pick my favourite parts of hairdressing it would have to be cutting, blow-drying and styling hair up but I also love the social side and meeting new people. My dream for the future would be to own a salon called 4 in 1 when I will have different spaces for people to have their hair, lashes, brows and nails done all in one place. I’m really looking forward to completing my apprenticeship and starting my journey into becoming a stylist.
Hi, I’m Charlotte!
Although we are not actively searching for a new team member at the moment we would still love to hear from you.
If you want to enquire about joining our team or would like to do work experience with us then send us an email halohairdesign4@gmail.com
Hi I’m Danielle, I’ve been qualified since 2017.
Hi I’m Jade.
I joined Halo in 2015 as a Saturday girl and have been a stylist since 2019. My all time favourite service to do is colour, highlights or balayage and I’m in my element.
Being artistic I think is what makes me enjoy colour so much, I use my creative side to create my client’s beautiful hair day in and day out, and regularly give aftercare advice so they can maintain their look at home. I am continually looking for ways to further my knowledge and find new techniques and formulas.
I always like to make sure my clients are comfortable and fully understand each step of a process and talk them through as we go. I think this is a hugely important part of the job; first is to create beautiful hair but second is speaking to clients and making them feel at ease while in my chair.

My name is Michelle. I have over 19 years experience as a professional hairdresser and I love creating beautiful hair.
Hairdressing has been in the stars for me even as a little girl. I did an apprenticeship as soon as I left school and this gave me a great grounding and a taste for all aspects of hairdressing.
I entered many competitions in my teens and early 20’s in fashion hair up.
I have been privileged to be able to attend many course over the years to perfect my skills and keep up with current trends and techniques.
Hairdressing is an ever evolving industry which helps keep me excited and my passion for hairstyling alive.
In recent years my passion is cutting and colouring.
Both are so important in creating the perfect style and boosting my guests confidence. I always try and help my guests to understand the process from start to finish. I want people to feel confident in my work, feel safe and valued while with me.
While hairdressing is my life and passion my family is my world. At the moment I work part time enjoying both my career and spending as much time as I can with my kids while they are small.
I have been at Halo now for 14 years and it’s been a fantastic place to work. So grateful for “the Boss Lady” who’s is providing more great and exciting opportunities.
The best is yet to come!
